NORWEGIAN FILMS with English subtitles

 

From March 11 it is again a great opportunity to see contemporary (and sometimes classical) feature films, documentaries and shorts with English subtitles at the Norwegian film institute. The screenings will take place almost every Friday at 4.30 p.m in the renovated cinemas Tancred or Lillebil. Free tickets might be collected at Filmens Hus from Wednesday same week as the screenings.

Se norsk film med engelske undertekster – gratis! Norwegian Films-visningene er så godt som hver fredag (se program) klokka 16.30 i Filmens hus, Oslo. Billetter kan hentes i billettluken/Filmbutikken på Filmens Hus fra og med tre dager forut for den aktuelle visningen.

BURMA VJ Friday March 12: BURMA VJ – Reporting From a Closed Country

This unique and Oscar-nominated documentary tells the story of the rebellion of the munks in Burma in 2007, mainly through the mostly illegal footage of the video journalist (VJ) Joshua and his collegues, working for the Oslo based TV station Democratic Voice of Burma. The film has been shown at over 150 festivals and has received 40 awards.

The film tells in different ways the story of two young men becoming murderers, a mother loosing her child, and the difficult attempts to reconsile oneself after  strong events in the past. Troubled water is the third part of the director’s  Oslo trilogy, made after Schpaaa in 1998 and Hawaii Oslo in 2004. Poppe received the prestigious Arne Skouen Honorary Award last December for these films.

Friday April 9: STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL

Director  and screen writer: Benedicte Maria Orvung. Production Company : Orvung Film.

At the age of 30, director Benedicte Orvung discovers that her family is hiding a dark secret. The discovery leads her to a shocking story : Her grandfather’s brother, Karl Marthinsen, was one of the most prominent Nazi police leaders in Norway during WW II. He was executed just before the end of the war by the resistance movement. This led to terrible retaliations.

The Angel is a story about women. About inheriting and enduring Mummy’s pain.  About the fact that dependence determines every decision you make. In a documentary  style you meet the  character Lea who wants to take care of her daughter Sonja, get cleen from drugs and start a new life.
Director Margreth Olin is a leading lady within Norwegian documentary films and has received many  awards for her films at leading festivals abroad.

Friday April 23 : MIRUSH

Director : Marius Holst. Screenplay : Harald Rosenløw Eeg and Lars Gudmestad.  Production Company Spillefilmselskapet 4 ½ A/S.

The young boy Mirush leaves Kosova hoping to find his father again in Norway. The father abandoned the family when Mirush was very young. Now he runs a restaurant in Oslo, but he is also in deep debt to the Albanian Mafia. Mirush starts to work in the restaurant and gradually they learn to know each other. But  Mirush also discovers bad and painful things about the father,  that will have large consequences for both of them.
This is Marius Holst’s third feature film. It has participated at many International  festivals and  received the Main Award at the Mannheim Heidelberg Film Festival  in Germany.

Friday April 30: OLE BULL

Ole Bull was Norway’s first superstar, as composer and violin viritous. His conquered the world while his wife and children were neglected. He was the violin King who seduced both women and audience, in Havana, New York and many European cities.  He was the great idol of his times, and struggled for the independence of Norway. This year we celebrate the 200 year’s Anniversary of Ole Bull.
