Norwegian director Charlotte Blom, whose A Sunday in Schweigaardsgate (En søndag i Schweigaardsgate) won an Amanda – the local Oscar – for Best Short in 2004, sat down in the Golden Chair, as her Coconut won the NOK 50,000 top prize of the 29th Norwegian International Short Film in Grimstad, which wrapped yesterday (Tuesday, 20 June). Coconut became also the audience favourite, to receive video distribution from Norwegian cinema association, Fim & Kino.

Øyvind Sandberg’s Patience of Hearts, which recently bagged Best Documentary as well as the Audience Award at the Norwegian Documentary Festival in Volda, received the NOK 30,000 Best Documentary Prize.

Coconut is a love story with a twist, about Lina’s longing for her boyfriend and an unexpected encounter in a snowball factory. Patience of Hearts is the story of a man suffering from Down’s Syndrome, and his girlfriend.

An installment in the Ekko av Ibsen (Echo of Ibsen) series aire by Norwegian pubcaster NRK, Marius Holst’s Kjøter – about a man who brings home an ugly dog to annoy his wife – was awarded the Terje Vigen Prize.

The international kudos went to international festival winners, including the Grand Prix SF Norge to Swedish director Jonas Odell’s animated Never Like the First Time! (Aldrig som första gången!), already bestowed by a Golden Bear at the Berlinale, and the Prix UIP Grimstad to Norway’s Sniffer, by Bobbie Peers, who returned from Cannes with the Golden Palm.

Other prizes: The Dolby Laboratories’ Sound Award to Andreas J Riiser’s Isola, the Playwrights’ Association’s Hourglass to Bjørn Olaf Johannessen’s script for Holst’s Kjøter, the Norwegian Film Union’s professional prize for cinematographer Anna Myking’s work on Trond Fausa Aurvåg’s Lonely Together (Alene menn sammen); the Norwegian Critics’ Association’s short film prize to Coconut; the Film Police’s short film prize to Jon Michael Puntervold’s Me, You and a Plastic Bag (Watch the film).
