Lien and Frølich lead the Amanda Race

Five noms each for for The Bothersome Man (Den brysomme mannen) and Pitbullterje, as the candidates for the Norwegian Oscars were announced earlier today (Wednesday, 28 June) at a press conference in Oslo

Norwegian directors Jens Lien’s The Bothersome Man and Arild Frølich’s Pitbullterje received each five nominations for the Amanda – Norway’s Oscar – as jury chairman, writer-director-actor Aksel Hennie announced the candidates for this year’s awards during a press conference at the Norwegian Film Institute at Oslo’s Filmens Hus earlier today (Wednesday, 28 June). They were closely followed by Ulrik Imtiaz Rolfsen’s Izzat, by four nominations, adding the The Canal+/SF Norge award for Best Nordic Newcomer.

The Bothersome Man was nominated for Best Film, Best director, Best Actor (Trond Fausa Aurvåg), Best Supporting Role (Petronella Barker), and Best Original Screenplay (Per Schreiner), while Pitbullterje qualified for Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress (Kristin Skogheim), Best Original Screenplay (Endre Lund Eriksen), also a contender in the category of Best Film for Children and Youth Audiences.

Ulrik Imtiaz Rolfsen’s Izzat is considered for an Amanda in four categories, including Best Film, adding the award for Best Nordic Newcomer. Petter Næss’ Love Me Tomorrow (Elsk meg i morgen) got three noms, comprising Best Director. Contenders for Best Foreign Feature: Chinese director Ang Lee’s Brokeback Mountain, US directors Tim Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and James Mangold’s Walk the Line.

After a regular with Norwegian pubcaster, NRK, for the last 20 years, the Amanda ceremony will for the first time be aired by commercial broadcaster TV2, as a Nordisk Film TV production. The event takes place on Friday, 18 August, at the Haugesund Concert Hall, as part of the 34th Norwegian International Film Festival.
