Beautiful Country to compete in Berlin

This is great, Hans Petter Moland Tells Norwegain newspaper VG. And continues – when it comes to being invited to participate in the main competition in any festival, Berlin and Cannes are among the thoughest. For me, this is a great honor, and I am looking forward to finally being able to screen my film for a large audience. I also know that some of the others who where involved in making the film will be able to join me in Berlin, Moland tells VG.
This is the first Norwegian feature film to enter the main competition in Cannes since 1995. The main competition consists of 26 films, where 22 will compete for the gold- and silver bears.
"Beautiful Country" is written by Larry Gross and Terence Malick. The main character is a young vietnamese of mixed heritage, his mother being vietnamese and his father an american soldier. His background has made life a challenge and one day he decides to go looking for his parents on both sides of the ocean.
Hans petter Moland has also directed "Aberdeen", "Kjærlighetens kjøtere" («Zero Kelvin») og "Secondløitnanten" («The Last Lieutenant»).
"Beautiful Country" is a norwegian-american co-production and the norwegian producers are Petter Borgli and Tomas Backtrøm, fromthe production company Dinamo Story. They also produced «Telegrafisten» («The Telegraphist»), directed by Erik Gustavson and «Ti kniver i hjertet» «Cross my heart and hope to die», directed by Marius Holst. Holst participated in the main competition in Berlin in 1993 and 1995.
"Beautiful Country" is expected to open in norwegian movie theatres in february 2004.
