About The Norwegian Film Institute |

The Norwegian Film Institute was established on April 1st, 2008,
following the merge of the four former governmental institutions The Norwegian Film Institute, The Norwegian Film Fund, Norwegian Film Development and The Norwegian Film Commission. The Norwegian Film Institute operates under the authority of the Ministry of Church and Cultural Affairs. The objectives in the area of film policy, adopted by Parliament, govern the Norwegian Film Institute’s activities. The Norwegian Film Institute is located in the Film House in downtown Oslo. The Film House is a gathering place for film administration, film business and for the general public. The objectives of the Norwegian Film Institute are to support the production, promotion and distribution of quality films, as well as to represent Norwegian film internationally, and to highlight film as an expression of art and culture.
The Norwegian Film Institute invites colleagues, partners and other stakeholders to dialogue and collaboration.
The Norwegian Film Institute supports, provides access to and promotes Norwegian short films, documentaries and feature films. This is the Norwegian Film Institute:
THE BOARD
The Board of the Norwegian Film Institute consists of ten members, each appointed by the government. The board appoints the CEO:
Kristenn Einarsson (chairman), Aage Aaberge, Solvor Amdal, Morten Andreassen, Henning Camre, Lisa Marie Gamlem, Nina Grünfeld (deputy chairman), Eirik Ildahl, Toril Simonsen and Randi Øverland.
EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT

The Norwegian Film Institute has approx. 100 employees, and is divided into five departments: three industry departments, the department of Administration and the department of Information. An executive editor answers directly to the CEO.
EXECUTIVE EDITOR
The Executive Editor is responsible for major film cultural projects abroad, and
for foreign delegations visiting Norway.

DEVELOPMENT & PRODUCTION
Total funding amounts to approx. NOK 350 mill./year, covering
• Development support: Screenplays, projects and video games
• Production support: Feature films, documentaries, short films, television series
• Seminars, workshops and training for professionals
The Department for Development and Production allocates grants to film, TV and game producers, as well as to Norwegian script writers. In addition, the department is serving the audio-visual community, organising workshops, courses and seminars aimed at furthering creative and technical competence, as well as project-based training for the development and enhancement of individual skills.
Funding is available for:
• Development grants, screenplays for full length feature films and tv series
• Production support for full-length feature films, including support for project
development and marketing
• Support for the Norwegian [minority] participation in international co-production
• Production support for short films and television documentaries, and for television
series, including support for project development
• Support for project development of video games
• Box office bonuses
In addition, a support scheme for company development, focusing on slate
development funding.

MEDIA Desk Norway is responsible for the EU’s MEDIA programme and operates as its information and consulting office in Norway. The MEDIA programme support the European audiovisual industry through a variety of support schemes for training of professionals, project development, distribution, festivals, markets and other promotion activities. MEDIA Desk Norway is administratively linked to the Norwegian Film Institute, and located in the Development and Production department.

The department works to promote Norwegian films, international classics and film culture
to a broad audience at the Film House in Oslo and throughout the country, in collaboration with national and international cultural institutions.
