Norwegian directors Arild Andresen and Jens Lien selected for the Gøteborg International Film Festival.

Norwegian directors Arild Andresen’s Company Orheim (Kompani Orheim) and Jens Lien Sons of Norway (Snner av Norge) are among the eight Nordic contenders for the Dragon Award at the upcoming Gøteborg International Film Festival, which runs between 27 January-6 February. The Dragon trophy comes with a cheque of 1 million (Swedish) crowns.

World premiere

Scandinavia’s largest audience festival with app 200,000 admissions, unspooling for the 35th time, Gøteborg will host the world premiere of Andresen’s second feature, following The Liverpool Goalie (Keeper’n til Liverpool), which scooped 13 awards on its international tour after the Berlinale - Company Orheim is the third film based on Tore Renberg’s novels about Jarle Klepp.

Coming-of-age

Lars Gudmestad and Andresen scripted the family and coming-of-age drama from the mid-1980s, when Jarle and his parents are struggling to live under the same roof - Jarle escapes through music, political activism and chasing girls. Yngve Sæther and Sigve Endresen produced the film for Motlys, and Norsk Filmdistribusjon handles local release on 2 March. NonStop Sales is the international sales agent of the film.

Suburban hell

After winning more than 20 international prizes for The Bothersome Man (Den brysomme mannen), Lien signed the screen adaption of Nikolaj Frobenius’ novel Sons of Norway, set ”in surburban hell during the 1970s’ revolt and punk rock era.” Also a festival tourer, it most recently won for Best Actor (Sven Nordin) in Tallinn. Christian Fredrik Martin produced for Friland Produksjon AS and international sales is handled by Films Distribution.
