Den danske dikteren, 2006, Regi: Torill Kove
The Danish Poet, 2006, Dir: Torill Kove

The Danish Poet (Den danske dikteren)

Is it possible to trace the chain of events that led to our own birth? Is our existence just coincidence? Do little things matter?

In The Danish Poet the narrator ponders these question as we embark on a holiday to Norway with Kaspar, a poet whose creative well has run dry. As the story of Kaspars quest for inspiration unfolds, it appears that a spell of bad weather, angry dogs, cows that slip form barn planks, careless postmen, hungry goats and other seemingly unrelated factors might play important roles in the big scheme of things after all.

Director

Torill Kove

Torill Kove (born May 25, 1958), is an award-winning director, animator, illustrator and author. Kove grew up in Norway and Kenya and initially moved to Canada to continue her studies in urban planning. She worked with this for several years before her passion for illustrating changed her focus to animation. She took an education as animator at the Concordia University in Montreal and garnered attention with her first films All You Can Eat, Fallen Angel and Squash and Stretch. She has had several roles with a number of animated productions for the National Film Board of Canada, in addition to illustrating several children's books.

Kove has also written and illustrated two books based on her own films: The first one was My Grandmother Ironed the King's Shirts (produced by National Film Board Canada and Studio Magica as) which received an Oscar® nomination for Best Animated Short in 2000 and made her a household name in Norway. Kove's big international breakthrough as a director came when she won an Oscar® for the animated short The Danish Poet (produced by Mikrofilm as and National Film Board Canada) in 2007. She made her feature debut in 2013 with Hocus Pocus, Alfie Atkins (produced by Maipo as).
