Carl Størmer and his Detective Camera
Original title Carl Størmer og hans detektivkamera
Type Documentaries
Director Evald Otterstad
Short summary Carl Størmer is one of Norway´s pioneering photographers, known as the “Northern Lights photographer”. This film fictionalises Størmer´s very first and rather unique photography project, his spy photography of 1890s Kristiania (Oslo).
Summary Carl Størmer 1874 - 1957. Mathematician and Northern light researcher, professor at University of Oslo. He is best known for being the first to capture the northern light photographically. He is regarded as one of the top scientist at the University in his lifetime. And he was regarded as a “personality” in town, highly esteemed for his humor and his witty remarks. In the 1890’s, as a young student in Kristiania (later Oslo) he used a hidden camera, capturing people he met on the street, especially the celebrities and lovely young women. What was he aiming at? This was in every way an irregular activity at the time.
