and their lead–singer Ali, the freestyle skier Sanam and the
controversial artist Shahram who is threatened with the death sentence during the shooting of the film.
Summary Young Iranians displaying artistic or musical ambitions have to live out their dreams behind closed doors. Even atheltic pursuits face a strict regimen of restrictions. Violating the the code of conduct set for a pious life by the ruling clergy entails the risk of public floggings, and as you will see in Forbidden Future, even being sentenced to death.
Those wealthy enough have the last resort of buying back their freedom by bribing the judge responsible..

Forbidden Future introduces you to the Death–Metal band Scourge, and their singer Ali. Sanam, the freestyle–skier and music student and the controversial painter Shahram – who gets perilously close to being sentenced to death during the shooting of the film.

The film paints a picture of Iran and Iranians differing drastically from the image of unity and submission created by the western media.

The documentary team travelled covertly to Iran, meeting up with students, artists and intellectuals who represent thoughts and ideas regarded with great displeasure by the authorities, and which they have done their upmost to suppress.
Many of the opinions voiced in this film, although innocent enough to a western ear, can be subject to punishment by the Iranian judiciary.

Forbidden Future provides a unique insight into an isolated society, completely untouched by the censors. It shows the viewer what it's like to be young and ambitious in the Islamic republic when your interests, ambitions and ideals clash with those the government feel you ought to have.
