Summary This film is based on a selection of stories about Ollie Alexander by one of Norway's most popular writers of children's books, Anne-Cath. Vestly. The author plays a major part in the film herself, though not on screen, as she is both the voice-over and sings the theme song.
Ollie Alexander Tiddly-Om-Pom-Pom is a small boy who lives together with his mother and father and the family's poodle, Puffin, in the tallest building in town. Ollie Alexander Tiddly-Om-Pom-Pom is not, of course, the little boy's real name, but once, when he was very young, he heard a brass band thumping away, and imagined that the trumpets and drums were saying "tiddly-om-pom-pom, tiddly-om-pom-pom" to him personally, whereafter he insisted on being called «Ollie Alexander Tiddly-om-pom-pom».

The story is set in Oslo in 1952 and centers on Ollie Alexander's adventures and daily life. He runs errands for his mother, "gets married", is entrusted with his own door key, has a birthday party, and imagines himself a cowboy. We also make the acquaintance of his grandparents and his two aunts, Lissi and Maren, who never stop talking. Ollie Alexander finds his first true friend in Mons, who lives in a small wooden house nearby. Together with little Ida they make a fun-loving and inseparable trio. The caretaker of the apartment building in which Ollie Alexander lives is also one of his best friends, especially after he comes to the rescue when Ollie Alexander gets stuck in the lift. But Ollie Alexander also ventures further afield, and there he meets a real policeman and is given a ride in a proper police car. The film also follows Ollie Alexander as he awaits the birth of his little sister, Teeny-Weeny, and we see how he and the rest of the family respond to the coming into their midst of a tiny new member.
