    James Longley (b. 1972) started out as a filmmaker winning a Student Academy Award for a documentary, Portrait of Boy With Dog, made while studying at the Moscow Cinematography Institute after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Since then, Longley has directed and produced several documentaries in the Middle East, including two Oscar-nominated documentaries in Iraq; IIraq In Fragments and Sar's Mother. Among the awards his films have received are the Nestor Almendros Human Rights Watch Award, The Full Frame Festival Jury Prize, a Gold Hugo at the Chicago International Film Festival, and Directing, Editing and Cinematography awards at the Sundance Film Festival. 35mm prints of all James’ past films are held in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art and the Academy Archive. Inducted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2007, Langley was named a MacArthur Fellow in 2009, and a US Artists Ford Fellow in 2011.
