As a young woman, Edel leaves her home village in Western Norway to become an artist in Berlin. Thirty years later she returns as Abbess Thavoria, a high regarded nun within the Greek Orthodox Church. She has been sent back on a mission: Together with a group of chosen sisters she is going to build a magnificent monastery on top of a steep and inaccessible mountain overseeing the fjord.

Director

  • Silje Evensmo Jacobsen

Silje Evensmo Jacobsen began her career in 2009 with the award-winning Daughter of God, a student documentary that portrays the complexity of gender through the life of a young boy in India. Since then, she has directed several documentary series and is known for creating one of the most popular series in Norway, Team Ingebrigtsen, about an unconventional Norwegian family where the children are raised to be top international runners. Her first feature film was Faith Can Move Mountains (2021), about nuns breaking boundaries in rural Norway. A New Kind of Wilderness is her second feature documentary, produced by A5 Film — an esteemed Oslo-based production company founded by Jacobsen herself, alongside producer/director Mari Bakke Riise.
