Documentary film My Favorite War

My Favorite War is an animated documentary based on the childhood story of director Ilze Burkovska-Jacobsen, growing up in the USSR during the Cold War. A coming of age story about the personal road of escape from the brainwash of the mighty authoritarian regime. 

“I had to make a choice then - who do I want to become, and what do I believe in? The same questions young generations are asking themselves today”.

  • Ilze Burkovska Jacobsen

    Ilze Burkovska Jacobsen (b. 1971) moved to Norway from her native Latvia in 1990. She studied directing for television at Lillehammer University College. Ilze's debut film, The Class Photograph, found an international audience. My Mother`s Farm was selected for IDFA in 2008 and won several film awards in Latvia, Norway, and Poland. 

    With her husband Trond Jacobsen (director and producer), she runs and owns the company Bivrost Film. Ilze focuses on documentaries, but their company also makes films and series for television, primarily for children. Their animated series “My Body Belongs to Me” won several prizes, including an Emmy Award in 2019, together with NRK Super.
