The Tattooed Sun
(Den tatoverte solen)
The Tattooed Sun is a close-up portrait of Shwan Dler Qaradaki's late mother. A poetic and moving personal narrative, it is told through watercolour and ink drawings, with a subjective narrative voice. "This is my version of my mother's story’, he says. “My siblings' stories would probably be different.” The film is not only a tribute to his mother, but a call to viewers to reassess stereotypical images of Middle Eastern women as weak and oppressed. Qaradaki's portrait of his mother shows a very different picture.
