The Norwegian Film Institute’s talent programme Nye veier (New Ways) will back the development of two short documentaries and two shorts.

The Earth is a Chili - about a little boys fantasies

27 Norwegian film projects had applied for development funding from the Norwegian Film Institute’s talent programme, New Ways this round, and four - two short documentaries and two shorts – received a total of €0.2 million (NOK 2 million) support.

These projects received support:

 Jorden er en chili (The Earth is a Chili)

This is an animated short documentary for children by Norwegian award-winning writer-director Even G Benestad, will show how a child communicates his universe of philosophical reflections, fantasies, dreams and nightmares. Benestad has received two Norwegian Amanda film prizes for his documentaries. The Earth is a Chili will be produced by Karianne Berge for Indie Film.

Odelsguten og Fantefølget 

In Odelsguten og Fantefølget (english title tbd.), Norwegian director Merete Offertdal Tveit deals with a controversial project of art, Crossroads (Vegskille), which was between 1814-1817 constructed in five municipalities in Norway’s eastern Gudbrandsdalen. She also discusses the potential of art both in the preservation and the development of society. Her film will be staged by KriStine Ann Skaret for Stray Dog Productions.

Schengen

Described as ”an absurd comedy about European cultural policy,” Norwegian director Gunhild Enger’s short, Schengen, will be produced by Ingvild Evjemo for 4½ Fiksjon.

DepenDANCE

Well-known for her dance films, Norwegian director Maria Lloyd will for the first time use actors and a dialog in her short, DepenDANCE, about a writer at work, produced by Cecilie Bjørnaraa for True Fiction.

 The New Ways scheme is intended to give directors and producers an improved opportunity for trying out new ideas and achieving a deeper artistic understanding, to contribute to the development and innovation of Norwegian cinema’s formal language and storytelling.
