The Norwegian Film Institute will chip in €5.9 million (NOK 57.4 million) for three new Norwegian TV series from its new 2016 incentive scheme, aimed at supporting productions with a minimum of 30% international financing and already secured strong international distribution: Cinenord Drama’s Atlantic Crossing, Wisting and Rubicon TV’s Beforeigners.

According to the programme, film and TV productions can apply for 25% of the costs of filming in Norway.  For the 20178 budget, five Norwegian drama projects, a foreign drama series with a Norwegian co-producer, five international features, two with Norwegian co-producers, all of them totalling €65,6 million (NOK 633 million), wanted access.

Top quality Norwegian drama

"It is a pleasure to offer incentive grants to three major Norwegian drama series,” said Stine Helgeland, head of communication, insight and international relations at the Norwegian Film Institute. “With its recent international awards, Norwegian television drama has shown it has top quality, high ambitions, high budgets, strong international funding and wide international distribution.

“It is good to see that with the incentive grants these Norwegian projects, which would otherwise been filmed abroad, are now realised in Norway, with Norwegian film people,” Helgeland concluded. The scheme should also increase the experience and knowledge of a substainable  local industry, stimulate growth and international collaboration.
