Documentary feature Kyiv Soloists and hybrid feature Heroes of Tomorrow have been selected for the 2025 Göteborg Film Festival. The festival kicks off on January 24 with the world premiere of Norwegian feature Safe House.
The feature Love (dir: Dag Johan Haugerud ) and documentary short In My Hand are also selected for the 2025 Göteborg Film Festival (January 24 - February 2).
The feature Safe House (dir: Eirik Svensson) has previously been announced as the opening film of the 2025 Göteborg Film Festival.
Safe House and Love are in competition for the Dragon Award Best Nordic Film, one of the world’s largest film prizes, with a monetary award of 400,000 SEK.
Love is the third film in director Dag Johan Haugerud's trilogy Sex/Dreams/Love, and had its world premiere at the 2024 Venice Film Festival.
The Göteborg Film Festival is the largest public film festival in the Nordic region and a major annual meeting place for the Nordic film industry.
Kyiv Soloists follows the Ukrainian string orchestra who became war refugees overnight and sought temporary residence in Bodø with the Arctic Philharmonic. The documentary feature is directed by Trond Kvig Andreassen, producer is Indie Film/Karianne Berge. Kyiv Soloists is in competition for the Dragon Award Best Documentary at the Göteborg Film Festival.
Heroes of Tomorrow is the new hybrid feature film from director Mariken Halle, and takes place at a private business school in Oslo during the pandemic. Heroes of Tomorrow is screened in the Nordic Light section at the Göteborg Film Festival.
Documentary short In My Hand, about Saami activist Niilas Somby, has been selected for the Focus: Disobedience section. In My Hand is directed by Liselotte Wajstedt and Marja Helander and produced by Paranord Film/Linn Henriksen. The film will have its world premiere at the Tromsø International Film Festival (January 13–19) and its international premiere in Gothenburg.
The short film Brain Rot, by Norwegian filmmaker Emil Engesnes Bråthen, is selected for the Swedish Shorts section.
On February 23rd, 14 of the Ukrainian musicians in Kyiv Soloists start a short tour with the orchestra to Italy. The same night Russia invaded their home country. In the chaos that follows they decide to expand their tour around Europe, spreading Ukrainian culture and message of peace. While navigating their journey, they have to come to terms with their new life as refugees. Intertwined is a musical journey of their fighting spirit, sorrow, hope and loneliness. How are they going to make choices for their future, when the war overshadows everything?
Love is about a single woman in her prime is looking for sex and intimacy but doesn’t want to establish a new relationship – to the despair and envy of her surroundings. She meets two men who represent two different forms of love, and who in their way challenge her desire to be true to herself and explore her feelings. Moral fables and existential comedies about sexuality and queer sensibility set in Oslo today.
At a private business school during the pandemic, Margaret is trying to put together a team building event. She wants the employees to plant something together to get closer to nature and each other. Students are stuck on Zoom, but soon they sneak into the school, reading texts by Milton Friedman to understand the world they´ve inherited. Part two of the film is team building, which proves to be unlike anything else.
In My Hand is a compelling true story, narrated by Niillas Somby, that explores the personal and historical struggles of the Sámi people. The film navigates between imprisonment, protests, and surreal encounters, providing a unique insight into one man's extraordinary journey. It concludes with a powerful call to action for the preservation of nature.
