Royal Blood is a bold historical drama set in the turbulent years leading up to 1814, when Norway breaks free from centuries of Danish rule and is thrust into a new union with Sweden. As Europe is torn apart by the Napoleonic Wars, the great powers of France, Britain and Russia redraw the map of the continent, threatening the sovereignty of the Scandinavian kingdoms.
Across the royal courts of Denmark and Sweden, and within Norway’s rising political elite, we follow men and women born into privilege – and confined by it: a Danish crown prince desperate to prove his strength as his authority slips away, a Swedish royal strategist who topples a young king to secure her dynasty, and a young Norwegian noble willing to risk everything to carve out a nation of his own.
Behind gilded palace walls, strategy and desire are inseperable. Under mounting pressure, loyalty, ambition, love and duty collide, and a single miscalculation can cost a throne, a life or a country. Royal Blood is an intimate yet epic portrait of dynasties in crisis, and of how Norway, Sweden and Denmark became irrevocably bound together in the birth of a new political order, where power is no longer inherited without question, but fought for, negotiated and ultimately reshaped in the name of democracy.
