Oscar 2026: The feature films Dreams by Dag Johan Haugerud, Sentimental Value by Joachim Trier and the documentary Facing War by Tommy Gulliksen have been shortlisted as this year’s Norwegian Oscar candidates.

One of these three films will soon be selected to represent Norway in the competition for the Oscar for Best International Feature Film.

These are three films the Norwegian Oscar Committee believes are the strongest candidates for an Oscar in the Best International Feature Film category.

A 16-year-old girl describes her all-consuming infatuation with her female teacher in a way that makes both her mother and grandmother want to publish her diary because it is so well written. At the same time, they are reminded of their longings, while the daughter loses ownership of the love. Sex Dreams Love A film trilogy that consists of three loosely connected stories that in different ways speak about the way we behave to achieve our inner longings. Moral fables and existential comedies about sexuality and queer sensibility are set in Oslo today.

The King's Choice (Kongens nei) was on the Academy shortlist in 2016 and Hope (Håp) was on the shortlist in 2021

In 2025, the feature film Armand, the documentary Ibelin, the animated short Perhaps it Was Elephants, and the Palestinian-Norwegian documentary No Other Land were all shortlisted by the Academy for potential Oscar nominations. No Other Land went on to win the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature.

The 98th Academy Awards will take place in Los Angeles on March 15, 2026.
