Dag Johan Haugerud’s feature film Dreams, the second installment in his trilogy Sex, Dreams, Love, will have its international premiere in the main competition at the Berlin International Film Festival.
With this prestigious invitation, Dag Johan Haugerud and his filmmaking colleagues return to Berlin, where Sex—the first film in the trilogy—had its world premiere in February 2024.
“I am very pleased that Dreams has been selected for the main competition in Berlin. The trilogy began its journey at the Berlin Film Festival a year ago with Sex, and being able to conclude the trilogy in the same place a year later feels incredible. A huge thanks to all the actors, producers, an amazing crew, and everyone else who helped make Dreams a reality,” says director and screenwriter Dag Johan Haugerud.
“This has been an amazing year for all of us who worked on the trilogy Sex, Dreams, Love. With three films at three A-list festivals within the same year, numerous awards, and global sales of all three films, it has exceeded even our wildest ambitions. The invitation for Dreams to the main competition in Berlin is the icing on the cake, cementing Dag Johan Haugerud’s position among the top tier of today’s filmmakers, where he belongs,” say producers Hege Hauff Hvattum and Yngve Sæther.
"2024 was an exceptionally strong year for Norwegian cinema internationally, thanks in part to two of the films in Dag Johan Haugerud’s trilogy", says Kjersti Mo, director of the Norwegian Film Institute. Sex was showcased at the Berlinale, and Love was screened in the main competition in Venice.
"Now, with the third film, Dreams, competing in the prestigious main competition at the Berlinale, it’s clear that Dag Johan Haugerud is a screenwriter and director who creates world-class, beautiful films with strong international appeal. Show me another filmmaker with three films at A-list festivals in one year! It’s an extraordinary achievement that truly showcases what a talented and hard-working filmmaker Dag Johan Haugerud is,” says Kjersti Mo, director of the Norwegian Film Institute.
