Pål Øie (b. 1961) was educated at Volda University College and the University of Bergen, in addition to studying music in the United States. He has extensive experience in film making, both as a screenwriter, director and producer, and has made numerous award-winning shorts, in addition to his feature films. His films have been screened at various film festivals around the world.

Although already an accomplishe short film director, his definitive breakthrough came with his feature film debut, the eerie horror-thriller Dark Woods in 2003. The film was a low-budget production, but became a sleeper-hit, and was even voted the scariest Norwegian movie ever, in a vote held by the daily newspaper Dagbladet in 2008. Dark Woods positioned Øie as Norway’s leading horror director, a film maker with a strong sense of the dark side of human nature, and a solid conveyor of disturbed emotions and ambiances. He demonstrated these skills again in 2009, with another horrifying film experience; Hidden.
