The enormous power of the Ganges erodes national borders, villages and the lives of men. Two young boys, Rubel and Sofikul were neighbours before the river Ganges swept their homes away. Now both of their families have made their new home on Char, a small island in the Ganges, - and smuggling is their only hope of survival.

Rubel a fourteen years old boy is smuggling rice from India to Bangladesh. He has to cross the river Ganga acting as the international border. The same river eroded his home in mainland India when he was just four. Years later a fragile island called Char was formed within the large river.

Rubel, with his family and many homeless people settled in this barren field controlled by the border police. With death just a bullet away Rubel dreams of a life in the city while hiding and walking with a sack of rice to reach another country. The sharp sound must not pierce through his body; not while his mother awaits him hearing bullets that took her husband away. But Rubel fights on while monsoon clouds arrive inviting the flood, the river swells up again. 'Char may disappear but we won’t, smiles the boy.
