The drama series A Sámi Wedding has been selected for the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival 2025 (4.-14. september).
A Sámi Wedding is produced by Mer Film and Tordenfilm in co-production with Forest People for NRK, with international sales handled by REinvent International Sales.
The series will have its world premiere in Toronto, where it will be screened in the Primetime section. In Norway, the series will air on NRK early 2026. A Sámi Wedding (original title: Heajastallan - Bryllupsfesten) is the first drama series from writer and director Åse Kathrin Vuolab.

Toronto is one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world, and only a few drama series are selected each year. We are extremely proud, and are loooking forward to showing the series for the Toronto audience, says producers Eric Vogel and Maria Ekerhovd.
A Sámi Wedding has received NOK 4.900.000 in development and production funding from the Norwegian Film Institute.
In the small Sámi town of Kautokeino, Garen is at the bottom of the social ladder. Trapped in a loveless marriage, she pours her energy into helping her unappreciative family. When her son is to marry into a wealthy reindeer-herding family, Garen sees a chance to lift her status by arranging the perfect wedding. Garen must recruit her siblings: the gay artist Henry who hates everything Sámi, the outspoken addict Belle and the village fuckboy Johan. The whole of Kautokeino watches while the dysfunctional siblings arrange a wedding in record time. What can go wrong? Spoiler: Everything!
