Four Norwegian films are on the EFA Shortlist for the 38th European Film Awards, announced today: Feature films Sentimental Value by Joachim Trier, Dreams by Dag Johan Haugerud, Loveable by Lilja Ingolfsdottir and the documentary Flophouse America by Monica Strømdahl.
The European Film Awards are presented by the European Film Academy, honouring the greatest achievements in European cinema.
"This year’s shortlist for the European Film Awards confirms the exceptionally strong position Norwegian cinema has achieved in recent years, especially in Europe. We can confidently say that the golden age of Norwegian cinema continues", says Kjersti Mo, CEO of the Norwegian Film Institute.
67 feature-length films are shortlisted for a possible nomination for the European Film Awards, voted for by the members of the European Film Academy.
Sentimental Value by Joachim Trier was this years Grand Prix winner at Cannes, and is Norway's entry for the best international feature Academy Award. It is currently leading audience rankings in Norwegian cinemas, showing in cinemas in Sweden, France, Belgium and Switzerland, and has been sold to territories worldwide including China. Sentimental Value was last week nominated for the 2026 Lux Audience Award, which is presented by the European Parliament and the European Film Academy in partnership with the European Commission and Europa Cinemas.
Dreams was this year's Golden Bear winner at the Berlinale, and is part of Dag Johan Haugeruds multiple award-winning trilogy Sex Dreams Love, which has been sold to terrories all across Europe, and is currently showing in US cinemas.
Loveable by Lilja Ingolfsdottir won a record five awards at last year's Karlovy Vary, has been sold to multiple European territories, and is set for theatrical release on 3.000 screens all across China.
Documentary feature Flophouse America by Monica Strømdahl was in the main competion at this year's CHP:DOX where it was awarded the jury's special mention, has been screened at festivals across Europe, and will have its US premiere at Doc NYC in November.
The nominations for the 38th European Film Awards will be announced at the Sevilla Film Festival on November 18.

At the 38th European Film Awards ceremony, The European Film Academy will present Liv Ullmann with the Lifetime Achievement Award for her outstanding body of work as an actress, director and screenwriter.
At the 37th European Film Awards in 2024, debut feature Armand by Halfdan Ullmann Tøndel was awarded the European Discovery – Prix FIPRESCI award. Documentary feature The Remarkable Life of Ibelin by Benjamin Ree was awarded the European Young Audience Award. The Palestine-Norway co-production No Other Land was awarded the European Documentary award.
