Joachim Triers award-winning feature Sentimental Value made history today by receiving nine nominations for the 98th Oscars Academy Awards®. The nominations include Best Picture, Best International Feature, Best Actress and Best Director.
On Thursday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences announced the nominations for the 98th Oscars Academy Awards®.
Sentimental Value received a record nine nominations:
Best Picture, Best International Feature, Best Actress - Renate Reinsve, Best Director - Joachim Trier, Best Actress in a Supporting Role - Elle Fanning and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, Best Actor in a Supporting Role - Stellan Skarsgård, Best Original Screenplay - Eskil Vogt and Joachim Trier, Best Editing - Olivier Bugge Coutté,
"This is historic. Never before has a Norwegian film received so many Oscar-nominations" says Kjersti Mo, CEO of Norwegian Film Institute.
Joachim Trier is the first Norwegian director to be nominated for International Feature Film twice. The Worst Person in the World was nominated for Best Original Screenplay and Best International Feature Film in 2022.
This is the first time a Norwegian film has been nominated for Best Picture.
"That Sentimental Value has been nominated for Best Picture is truly extraordinary. No Norwegian feature film has ever reached this level, and even in a Nordic context this is a rare achievement. It places Joachim Trier among the very foremost filmmakers internationally" says Kjersti Mo.

Norwegian feature The Ugly Stepsister, directed by Emilie Blichfeldt, has been nominated for Makeup and Hairstyling (Thomas Forsberg and Anne Cathrine Sauerberg).
Sinners was nominated in a record 16 categories including Best Visual Effects, the nominees include Espen Nordahl of Norwegian VFX company Storm Studios.
The 98th Oscars Academy Awards® will be presented on March 15 in Los Angeles.
Sentimental Value was the big winner at this year’s European Film Awards, winning Best Film, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Composer, Best Screenplay, and Best Director.
At the Golden Globes, Stellan Skarsgård received Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role for his performance in Sentimental Value.
Sentimental Value had its world premiere at the Cannes Festival 2025, where it became the first Norwegian film to win the Grand Prix.
Sentimental Value has received NOK 32,9 million in grants and funding from the Norwegian Film Institute. International Sales Agent is MK2 (France) and Neon is the US distributor.
