  • Halkawt Mustafa

    Halkawt Mustafa (b. 1985) was born in Sulaymani, Kurdistan in northern Iraq. He moved to Norway with his family in 2000 and is a Norwegian citizen. He got his education at NISS (Nordic Institute of Stage and Studio), and made his debut as a feature film director with Red Heart in 2011. Red Heart is a Norwegian/Kurdish-Iraqi co-production telling the story of a young Kurdish girl who runs away from home with her secret boyfriend, when she discovers she is on the verge of being traded by her father, in exchange for his new bride.

    In 2015, Mustafa directed the acclaimed TV documentary The Women the Islamic State Fears, and in 2016, he directed his second feature El Clasico, where two Kurdish brothers go on a dangerous quest through Iraq to Spain to meet Christiano Ronaldo. El Clasico received several national and international awards.
